I am a homeschooling mom of two wonderful kids, ages 8 & 6, and have been married to my husband for 10 years. We love spending time together as a family outdoors – at the beach, in the mountains, in the desert, or somewhere in between. I have loved my homeschooling experience, and yet, it has not been easy or without personal character development, if you know what I mean! And when I started out, I was totally overwhelmed.
I Never Imagined Being a Homeschooling Mom
I was one of those people who never thought I would homeschool. Not that I was against it. But, I always thought it was never for me, and I didn’t even need to pray about it. Until one day, God began to open my eyes and to speak to my heart. Slowly I started to see what homeschooling really was. It was so much more than doing school at home, as I had naively thought.
Oh, no! Do I need to be praying about homeschooling?!
I apprehensively approached my husband and said I thought it was something we needed to be in prayer over. Still nervous about it, we prayed. Well, as God usually does when we come to Him for wisdom, He spoke to me loud and clear…and my husband too.
Questions, Concerns, and Doubts Abounded
Suddenly, with still many questions swirling in our minds, we began researching homeschooling and talking with mentors who had and were homeschooling. While God made it clear that this was something He was calling our family to do, I still had many reservations and fears.
- Would I be able to successfully teach my children?
- What about time for ME? I am an introvert after all.
- Could we make it financially?
- Would our kids turn out okay?
- Where do I start?
- And on and on…
I am so thankful for some invaluable advice and wisdom that women shared with me during my initial moments of my homeschooling journey (and for those who continue to feed into me!).
We’re All on This Journey Together
My homeschooling journey may look a bit different than yours. But, I have learned some invaluable tips along the way that I hope will help you on your journey to homeschool your sweet ones. I have met many wonderful moms who want to start homeschooling, and yet don’t know where to begin, how to get organized, and are completely overwhelmed, just like I was. Additionally, I have met many moms, including veteran homeschoolers, with some of the same struggles I have faced over the years – financial concerns, kids’ character issues, health issues of a loved one, how to manage a home, and how to stay sane in the midst of it all. And these don’t even get to the ever-present curriculum choice questions and extracurricular activity juggling.
It is my sincere hope that this website addresses some of your homeschooling concerns and questions, and feeds your heart and soul. This site is based on the words of Jesus in John 16:33,
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
I pray that it will equip and encourage you with nuggets of wisdom for your journey. Together, we can help raise up a godly generation who loves and serves the Lord wholeheartedly, and who is well-equipped for the world ahead of them.
While I definitely don’t have it all together, I hope you will join me as we commit together to serve, love, teach, and bless our families, neighbors, and friends in the best way possible! If you ever have any questions or need some support, I would love to help in any way I can. Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll get right back to you.
